TEENAGE YEARS: c 2010 Paul Kelley; oil on masonite panel; 18 x 14 inches
TEENAGE YEARS
Tossing in termoil, tumbled around,
Can't find the path for the tracks on the ground.
Parents still think that Glen Miller is King,
And I've been brought up to seek for a ring.
Must be some more to this planet in space,
Than to scramble along with the whole human race.
I'd rather fly free like a bird in the sky,
Than be beaten and bound by propriety's lie.

A DAY AT THE BEACH: c 2010 Paul Kelley; oil on masonite panel; 22 x 34 inches
THE BEACH
I came to this world as child so bright,
Bearing the future, the hope and the light.
Standing with kin on this clear crystal shore,
Feeling a sense of having been here before.
I had hoped that paradise might here begin,
But fear we may never pass this way again.

Looking Back...and...Looking Forward I grew up in a small town in Nova Scotia. When we went shopping in the local stores and businesses, we didn’t worry so much about whether the price for an item was inflated or whether it was poorly made and would break quickly. There were a few “get rich quick” business people, as in every town, who would raise the price by 20% before knocking off 10%, “just because you were such a good customer”. We mostly knew who they were, and approached them with caution; although I do recall my father remaining steadfastly loyal to one car dealer who I considered to be a particular crook. My father’s name was William, and when my mother went to the local grocery store, Mr. G. who ran the Meat Department, always referred to her as “Mrs. Willie”, and my brother and sister and I were “the little Willies”. The fish was fresh, and a pound of ground beef was a pound of ground beef. Mr. G. later set up his own business and his Lunenburg pudding and sausage, and minced meat are still legend in this area. Most of the shops were owned and run by our neighbours, people like us who were part of the community. Networking wasn’t discovered by the internet, it used to be part of everyday life; and sometimes we just called it “gossip”. Store owners either didn’t want to cheat you or sell you a faulty product; or knew that if they did, the rest of the community would soon know about it. I prefer to recall that it was the former, and I would like for those of you who enter into our “Purchase” section to have that same regard for us, and for me. Whether you are considering something in our “Purchase” area; or have just dropped by to visit my “Art Gallery” and browse the site, I hope that you enjoy your visit. If you have any suggestions, please leave us your comments. Paul W. Kelley |

Kayaking with family past the location of one of my paintings

Biography
Information
Biographical Information
Paul Kelley is a Canadian artist, born in Nova Scotia in 1955. He took his academic studies at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick form 1973 to 1975.
Paul lives in LaHave, Nova Scotia with his wife and family. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, kayaking, and working on their 100 year old house and property.
His quiet lifestyle belies Paul’s acute sense of the elements of fundamental beauty and sensuous allure. Paul understands the subtle difference between “sensual beauty”, and “sexual eroticism”. For an image to be sensuous simply means that it appeals to the eye and the heart. That understanding, combined with Paul’s expertise in composing the elements of his paintings within the parameters of his canvas, make Paul Kelley’s art, uniquely powerful, and appealing.
Paul's art is a labor of love. Each realistic painting is the result of hundreds of hours of work involving the careful manipulation of light and form, colour and composition, to create an image which is passionate and alluring. Whether the subject is a marine art or a young woman in high heels, the result is a balanced image which is both powerful and yet serene, mysterious yet inviting. Whether or not the piece is sensual art by subject, the result is a painting which is sensuous art in it's essential form.
Paul has been gratified by the positive response to his work over the expanse of his painting career. In the early 1990's he moved away from exhibitions and associations with galleries to some extent, and began dealing with individuals and corporations directly. Although this direct relationship between artist and client has been more demanding and time consuming, it has proven to be the apex of Paul's career, pushing him in fresh directions and to higher levels of excellence.
“Sensual Roots”, held in November 2008, in Toronto, marked a return to public exhibitions after 15 years, and was the culmination of 3 decades of crafting his art into images of beauty.
Paul is currently represented by the Emma Butler Gallery, St. John's, NL. and by Hollander York Gallery, Toronto, ON
